Luna Negra Dance Theater has established itself in Chicago's art and cultural community through its energetic, powerful, and passionate contemporary Latino dance, and its company of diverse dancers.

Luna Negra Dance Theater is a repertory company established in 1999 in Chicago, founded by Cuban-born dancer and choreographer Eduardo Vilaro.

The company celebrates the richness and diversity of Latino culture with the creation of works by contemporary Latino choreographers exemplifying energy, power and passion.

The company’s Artistic Director, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano has invited Latino choreographers from Argentina, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, Columbia and Cuba to choreograph for the company, ensuring an eclectic repertory. The company’s distinctive style blends the discipline of ballet with the dynamic movements of contemporary dance, infused with the explosive energy of Latin and Afro-Caribbean dance forms.

Described by the Chicago Sun Times as possessing "breathtaking facility," and by Cleveland's La Presna as displaying "brilliant artistry," Luna Negra is welcomed by Contemporary Dance Theater to Cincinnati in a showcase of its strongest works.
