Contemporary Dance Theater presents PilobolusMay 2 & 3, 2012
Having performed live in 64 countries for over 4 million people, Pilobolus makes a return to Cincinnati through Contemporary Dance Theater. The world-famous Pilobolus returns to the Cincinnati stage. What began as an outsider dance company in 1971, is now a world-renowned icon of dance, movement, athleticism, and creative collaboration. Pilobolus has been seen on television and stage, having performed live in 64 countries for over 4 million people. The dance company, known for its inventive, collaborative, and highly physical, acrobatic choreographies, has been seen on commercials for Mobil, Ford, Toyota, Opel, Hyundai, as well as CBS' 60 minutes, the 2007 Academy Awards, the Oprah Winfrey Show, the Late Show with Conan O'Brien, sixteen NFL games, and most recently, in a collaborative music video with band OK Go and America's Got Talent. The Washington Post writes, "Pilobolus embodies a large part of what the best in contemporary dance is all about: discovery. Making something new with the same standard body parts the rest of us have," resulting in what The New York Times' Alastair MacCaulay describes as "both physicality and illusion."
