New Book by Connie Bergstein Dow

NEW BOOK FOR DANCE TEACHERS OF YOUNG CHILDREN BY CINCINNATI DANCE ARTIST
AND TEACHER CONNIE BERGSTEIN DOW.

Connie Bergstein Dow believes that every child should have the opportunity to participate in the arts. She has drawn upon her 35 years as a dance teacher in writing Dance, Turn, Hop, Learn! - Enriching Movement Activities for Preschoolers. Her book contains lessons based on playful themes, which follow the school calendar, providing a year’s worth of movement activity. Each lesson provides a rich source of ideas to spur children’s imaginations, refine movement skills, and address educational standards. It also provides suggestions for music, stories, and simple props with which to enhance the activities. In the book’s introduction, she states:

“Teachers often have approached me and expressed interest in bringing creative movement into their classrooms, but they are unsure where to begin. Dance, Turn, Hop, Learn! is a step-by-step guide for integrating movement activities into existing curricula. Teachers will find that movement is a useful and accessible tool for nurturing a child’s physical, emotional, intellectual and creative development. They may be surprised to know that movement classes can also give the teacher the gift of classroom management strategies, because children will learn to control their direction, speed, and energy, as well as learn to move responsibly as a group.” Classroom teachers as well as dance teachers of young children will enjoy the many ideas presented throughout the thirty-eight complete lesson plans.

Connie received her MFA degree in Dance from the University of Michigan. She has performed and taught dance in Michigan, New York, Venezuela, and Guatemala, as well as here in Cincinnati.
