What is Performance and Time Arts?
A project of Contemporary Dance Theater, Performance and Time Arts (PTA) is Cincinnati’s longest-running performance art series showcasing new work in dance, music, theater, spoken-word and multi-media. In the laboratory setting of the 1890s College Hill Town Hall, both seasoned and emerging artists are given the opportunity to share innovative work and experiments with Cincinnati audiences.
The Program
The January program is curated by LACEY MONTGOMERY and KARI OLSON. It features new work by KENTON BRETT, DIANE GERMAINE (with ASHLEY GOOS, RENEE HENRY and SHANI COHEN), MANDY MILLIGAN and SEAN RAFFERTY, IRENE MIRCI (with MOHENJO DARO and LESLIE WATKINS), ISABELLE PROVOSTY, and NATHAN SINGER.
• KENTON BRETT creates videos, installations, and oddball performances in collaboration with several other artists. He strives to incorporate humor with craft to create new expressions that retain the wonder and imagination of childhood.
• Choreographer/writer DIANE GERMAINE, known locally for creating provocative dance and theater pieces, will present a new piece called “Small Craft Warning," featuring dancers ASHLEY GOOS, RENEE HENRY and SHANI COHEN.
• Choreographer MANDY MILLIGAN works to incorporate live music into dance with a piece that features live double bass by SEAN RAFFERTY.
• Dancer and instructor IRENE MIRCI will perform an expressive Arab dance improvisation with live accompaniment by world music band MOHENJO DARO and drummer LESLIE WATKINS. Mohenjo Daro’s inherently western methods blend with elements ranging from Indian raga and devotional music to Arabic trance and belly dance music.
• ISABELLE PROVOSTY, an instructor in ballet, modern and creative dance and former PTA planning committee member returns with a new modern dance work.
• NATHAN SINGER is a novelist, playwright, composer, musician and experimental performing artist. For PTA he will perform Dadaist sound poetry by Kurt Schwitters and Hugo Ball in a piece created with local director BRIAN GRIFFIN.
