Curtain time each night is 8:00 p.m. Last seasons final p.t.a. featured a Mexican dancer and a Bulgarian poet. October's show, which features a violinist from Poland, and a fiction writer from Hong Kong, will continue the same international flavor. Artists who will be presenting work include Pamela Breitbeil, Rachel James (with Rose Baz and Jacqueline Garcia), Carrie Rohman (with Karen Carcia and James D'Agostino), Margaret Schedel (with the FAZA String Quartet), F. Keith Wahle (with Sarah Mann-Drake), and Xu Xi. Dance fans will not be disappointed in this show, which will feature new choreography by Carrie Rohman, Rachel James, and Pamela Breitbeil. Carrie Rohman has choreo-graphed for p.t.a. and for Choreographers Without Companies (CWC). Her new work is tentatively titled "Restoration." The work will have text by two poets from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Karen Carcia and James D'Agostino. Both are in the PhD program at the University of Michigan, and both have been widely published in literary magazines. Rachel James will perform a new work with Rose Baz and Jacqueline Garcia. Rachel appears regularly in both p.t.a. and CWC. She has also performed at CAC, Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Taft Theater, where she appeared with the Children's Theater of Cincinnati. Rose Baz has danced in CWC, and has choreographed for p.t.a.. Like Ms. James, she often performs with the improvisation group, Kinesphere. Jacqueline Garcia, who has recently come to Cincinnati from New Mexico, had work presented in last spring's CWC concert. Pamela Breitbeil from Columbus will perform a brief dance solo, and will show a recently completed experimental video. Pamela has been a member of Group Creativity in NYC, and Women at Play in Columbus. Her dancing and choreo-graphy have also been seen in Los Angeles. Margaret Schedel, a composition student at CCM, whose work has been performed internationally, will present a recently completed string quartet, which incorporates electronic sounds and inter-active video. Ms. Schedel helped create the video effects for Judith Mikita's "Plum Job" in CWC. Her new work will be performed by the FAZA String Quartet, which is led by Polish violinist Piotr Szewczyk. Other members of the quartet are Amy Harris, second violin, Nick Jeffery, viola, and Hayk Babayan, cello. Poet F. Keith Wahle, the author of A CHOICE OF KILLERS, will perform a new theater work (which he prefers to call an anti-play rather than a play). Sarah Mann-Drake, who has performed for If Theater Collective, Know Theater Tribe, and other local companies will join Keith in the performances. Sarah is also a playwright, whose original works have been seen at p.t.a., Volk Gallery, S.S. Nova, Know Theater Tribe, and the Playhouse in the Park Alteractive series. Hong Kong-born fiction writer Xu Xi (pronounced Shoe See) is now an American citizen, but also has permanent resident status in Hong Kong. She divides her time between New York, Hong Kong, and New Zealand. She has published several novels and story collections with an English-language publisher in Hong Kong. Her books include, THE UNWALLED CITY (2001), HISTORY'S FICTION (2001), HONG KONG ROSE (1997), DAUGHTERS OF HUI (1996), and CHINESE WALLS (1994). She will be reading her signature story, "Jazz Wife," which she has performed all over the country. The evening will also include a gallery exhibit by Pamela Breitbeil, preliminary music by Margaret Schedel, and maybe a few other surprises. With new "performance" series popping up all over the city, but Performance and Time Arts continues to set the standard for experimental performance in Cincinnati. Dates for the rest of the 2003-2004 season will be: December 5-6, February 20-21, and April 2-3. Dates for a May show have not yet been set but look for the Fringe Festival information. The organizing committee for Performance and Time Arts includes Rose Baz, Rick Bedel, founding member Jefferson James, Colleen McCarty, Kari Olson, Holly Price, F. Keith Wahle, and newcomer Emily Hutzel. Support for PTA comes through Contemporary Dance Theater, from the Ohio Arts Council, the City of Cincinnati and the Fine Arts Fund as well as from individual donors.
